Scanner keep promise with preview track of the new album

A sneak peak into the upcoming Scanner album has been released on Scanner's Facebook page as promised earlier to the fans.

Sounds very old-school in my ears, remembered me a lot of the Hypertrace and the Terminal Earth album. It comes with a lot of raw power and a refrain that remains in your ears for quite some time.

Finally the album "The Judgement" will see the light of day on 25th January 2015 via Massacre Records. Looking forward to it!

Desperate Journalist introduce album with emotional and message-filled video

I like videos that have a message. Some even show it with including keywords in their promo videos. This particular one hits the feelings very deep with words and faces expressing closely the songs message. Emptiness and loneliness is what I would describe it with. The refrain sticks in your mind with the vocals going up so intensive that it's hard to ignore. But try it out for yourselves, because everybody has a different view on things.

Desperate Journalist consist of two girls and two boys who have bonded in the abandoned wilds of North London. Jo Bevan (vocals), Simon Drowner (bass), Rob Hardy (guitar) and Caz Hellbent (drums) - for 'tis they – have been hauled together by a fearsome instinct for what makes alternative music actually really properly authentically alternative.

They started their journey at the local Negative Creep grunge club night in Finsbury Park on February 23rd 2013. Since those heady, dark days Desperate Journalist have released one EP and two independent singles and played every other shadowy basement in London Town, displaying a bold musical vigour and an admirably chaotic sense of coherence along the way.

The video is a first taste of the self-titled debut album ‘Desperate Journalist’, which was recorded almost entirely live in Soho’s Dean Street Studios, jointly produced alongside Keith TOTP and mixed by the band itself. If that wasn’t organic enough, Desperate Journalist designed their own artwork, get heavily involved in their videos. You can download the digital version of the record already on the well known places like Amazon or itunes. The physical album is going to be released on 26th January 2015 on CD and LP via Fierce Panda Records.

Dead Bouquet kick off debut album with the first video single

Can you imagine folk and psychedelic elements to fit in well with distortion elements? Well this band called Dead Bouquet has found a way to combine all these elements along with fine melodies and a lot of feelings and emotions. It's music to be remembered. Maybe it's sort of expression of the feeling to be a leave flying in the wind these autumn days...

Also this song comes in a bit more lightweight I like the atmosphere in this one very much. It gives some postives vibes and a bit of redemption feeling also the basics of the track seem to have their roots in a more dark direction. The unusual mixture of the different elements with the acoustic elements together with slight elements of distortion give it this special dark, yet positive feeling to it. The vocals and powerfull drums add the perfect round-up for this track.

The Italian rock band presents their debut album with this video, out on October 27th via Seahorse Recordings, comprised of 13 mystical and nocturnal songs, ranging from psychedelia to folk. As Far As I Know has been produced by Paul Kimble (Grant Lee Buffalo) and mastered by Joe Gastwirt (Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia, Tom Petty, Jimi Hendrix, The Beach Boys).

The Dry Mouths let you listen to Cold Mind from the upcoming record

How cold and calm can you keep your mind in extreme personal situations? Test yourselves with the new song from The Dry Mouths!

The band The Dry Mouths are a Alternative Rock band from Almeria, Spain. Their music is a mixture between the rock of the 90′, stoner and the experimentation. The band has been influenced from Nirvana, Tool, Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky, Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd. So far they have released 3 albums: “Lost Bow Case Eckard” 2010, “Moons True Delay Lenght Wah Foo Era” 2012 plus "And Show Us" in 2013.

At the moment the band is preparing the release of their upcoming new EP which will be entitled "2 months". To give the people out there a idea of how the new songs are going to sound like the band has released a first full song for listening, it's the track "Cold Mind".

I like the music in this song very much, the song kicks in very straight. It's hard and dry and comes to the point. It comes with very raw sound which you could imagine to come directly as the if you were going to see the band playing live or doing a rehearsal.
The refrain is a kicker which hopefully will let people scream along at the live shows. Could imagine this going down live very well. The solo makes one feeling a bit nervous I must admit. :-)

The band is going to do a show together with Demiurgo on December the 12th at the Sala Planta Baja in Spain. For more details check the event webpage. Tickets are going for only five Euros at the presale, at the doors that evening tickets will cost 7 Euros.

If you want to keep an eye on the band don't forget to like them on Facebook or visit their website for all the informations about their past and upcoming releases and tour dates.

A metal concert in a church?

Yeah, what do you think about this idea? Does it work out or should both sides not team up?
A band called "Solution Cycle" played their first ever gig last week in a church in Lower saxony / Northern germany in a small town called Nortrup-Loxten (that's near Osnabrück).

A TV megazine that reports about all the daily news happening in this region called NDR made a short news about it and I saw it on TV last friday. I thought it would be nice to let you guys out there know about it. You can get a impression of the event on the website of the TV station, there are pictures and some interview footage (sadly only in german language) available.

It's a nice bonus that the TV station has set up not only the mentioned site with a report in german and pictures but also uploaded the full show as a video for streaming. It's the full concert with a length of around 90 minutes. The stream will be up for a very limited time so better hurry if you want to check it out. If you don't want to watch the full concert but quickly check out how the band sounds then pick up this short video snippet of around a minute. A gives a short insight into the song "Fire of Life".

The pastor of the church Uwe Brand wanted to send a message out there that the church should be open to these people as well. The concert was a big success, the band played to a packed house, a audience of around 400 people of nearly all ages showed up. The pastor himself was also involved into the concert as he spoke some lines of prayers that were embed into some of the songs.

In 2013 the same pastor already made another experiment. He invited a gothic band at the holy place and that did also work out fine with many people, mostly non-gothics showing up. For 2015 the pastor hopes to be able to do another experiment that opens the church up so more people may come to the church again and have a different experience. You can follow the further band activities by clicking the like-button on their Facebook page.

Bernie Marsden reveals video with unseen live Whitesnake footage

Legends always stay something special in the eyes of the fans. That's surely also what Bernie Marsden has experienced some time ago. At a rough guesstimate Bernie Marsden’s name appears on a hundred albums – maybe more. In addition to a long-running solo career the Buckinghamshire-born guitarist has been a recording musician since the early 1970s via membership of such groups as Whitesnake, UFO, Wild Turkey, Babe Ruth, Paice Ashton & Lord, Cozy Powell’s Hammer, Alaska, M3 and many more.

Most recently the guitarist revealed now the video for the song "Trouble" which includes unseen live footage of Whitesnake from 1980.  Talking about the video Bernie remarks; "This video is very special. A few months ago I was given a reel of film by a fan of a Whitesnake gig at Newcastle City Hall on the "Ready an' Willing" tour in 1980. It is unique and unseen footage of the classic early Whitesnake line up. Having had the enormous pleasure of hearing David Coverdale as a guest vocalist, and Ian Paice on drums on the track it seemed a perfect time to release just a little piece of it. It's a little grainy, but it is the real deal, watch Jon Lord in classic style on the Hammond organ. Many thanks to the people of the North East in the film, and of course the whole of the Whitesnake army out there. Special thanks to Mark Smith for his camera work and great editing. Hope you enjoy it, those on tour Snake memories flood back!"

The current album of Bernie Marsden ‘Shine’ features some extremely well-known names, from Joe Bonamassa to Whitesnake singer David Coverdale and the Deep Purple duo of Ian Paice (drums) and Don Airey (keyboards). Jimmy Copley of Jeff Beck fame behind the kit and Mark Feltham of Nine Below Zero also supplies some breathtaking harmonica playing. “I can’t help it, I’ve got a lot of mates – and quite a few of them are guitar players”, Bernie laughs.

At the moment he is back on the road with Joanne Shaw Taylor, here are the dates and links for purchasing tickets online. Check Facebook or Twitter for updates and news.

Wacken 2014 and beyond - streams online and boxset coming

Life can only be understood in reverse. But must be lived forwards… This quote from the Megadeth song "Losing my senses" is a good statement in my eyes. We should focus on the here and now rather than on the past.

Anyway, sometimes you may also like to look back as some memories can also be pretty sweet. This often comes into play when thinking about visiting a festival like the Wacken Open Air.

The german TV station zdf kultur has re-uploaded some of the broadcasts of the past Wacken Open Air from 2014. So here's one more chance to see this stuff if you haven't already.

Amon Amarth

In addition to that a mediabook package with 3 DVDs / Blu-rays is coming our way which will reflect upon the Wacken Open Airs of all the past years called „25 Years of Wacken – Snapshots, Scraps, Thoughts And Sounds“ .

The german Rock Hard megazine has been given the honour to exclusively present a first insight into the book on their website showing stuff from the years 1990 - 1994. Unfortunately it's in german but the pictures inside should be of interest to many people.

For more infos from the boxset and some snippets from the DVDs watch the trailer below.

Senate of Prevail showing Mosh Fest live footage and song playthrough

For years I've struggled to find a way to tell people why I'm so obsessed with gigs of small metal bands. This video that Senate of Prevail just released on Facebook gives some very good insight how it's like to be at a Heavy Metal Underground show.

I like that heavyness, it comes directly from the heart. No overdubs, no big intros but instead it just kicks ass directly from the very first moment up to the very last seconds but without missing out that feeling for vibes and melodies. Few people only know how much these people give to bring you such a fine music. Enjoy!

Update 2014/11/13: The band has announced the next show the band is going to play:

November 26th 2014
Pub Anchor, Sveavägen 90.

For all of you guitar players out there I've got a little extra: if you'd like to know how to play the rhythm guitars in "Abandon all hope" don't worry any longer. Here's a video that shows how to play that song.

Could watch for hours, always fascinates me to see guitar players in Heavy Metal bands. Plus I love to listen to the different sound these playthroughs provide and also some improvisations in this one.

Anyway, just try your luck I think it will be worth checking out. Maybe they'll also add the show to their archive later.

iLLacrimo presents new single and video Chains In The Cold

Here is some more metal from Italy. This time it is set in a direction of European sounds mixed with the traditional Italian melody. While the music goes a very straight way with powerful guitars and constant drums the vocals here stand out a bit for me. They are a bit different of what can be heard from similar bands and surprised me quite a bit when I saw the video.

The song, released via Resistolabel, anticipates the self-titled debut EP by the band, set to be released on January 2015, after the preview of the song Non Credi (the video of which was presented exclusively on the group's social channels).

Chains in The Cold was recorded in Italy, mixed at the Fastermaster studio in London under the stage management of Matteo Cifelli.  The band's upcoming self-titled EP is comprised of 5 songs that represent a little preview of the project and the direction taken by the band between two languages, two heritages, ballads and more aggressive stuff. The video of Chains In The Cold was shot by Matteo Cataldo (MTV Italy).
