Avantasia to play at preliminary round for Eurovision Song Contest

Yeah, sometimes news come rushing in you can't believe. This is one of those.

The well known metal opera project Avantasia of Edguy frontsiren Tobias Sammet has announced to play at this years 2016 edition of the German preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Wow, what a honour. This is a contest with a long tradition. Mostly it is well known for bands and single artists in the pop world but surely it is a great opportunity to promote some metal music on TV. The show is going to take place on 25th of February 2016 and will be broadcasted through TV. I'll add more details here in the article when I run across them, like the exact time for the show as well as (hopefully) links to where you can all watch the event.

Update 2016/02/19: On the website eurovision.de you'll find the livestream of the event.
German TV stations ARD and EinsFestival will broadcast this starting on 20:15h via their frequencies on german television.
You can read more detailed info about all the bands that will participate as well as about how to vote for your favorite band on the website of the Eurovision song contest Stockholm 2016 (sorry, only in german available).

In the meantime you can already check out the song the band is going to perform at the preliminary round of the ESC. The track is called ‘Mystery Of A Blood Red Rose’.

Until the big event takes place you can listen to the official album trailer for the upcoming Avantasia album "Ghostlights" which will hit the shelves of the CD shops on 29th of January 2016. As always it will feature a massive guestlist. Just hit the play button to be introduced to the line-up as well as the chance to check out the cover art and to check out some info on the various release formats.

Finally here is a list of the upcoming tourdates for the worldtour which will start in March 2016. Some venues are already sold out, so better hurry if you want to get a ticket for one of their shows. Ticket can be purchased over at Avantasia.net

Elferya streams first track of new album "Eden's Fall"

Female voices can be such a strong element in the sound of a band! This sentence came to my mind when I listened to a track of the brand new Elferya record, that has hit the shelves exactly one month ago.

This one touches my mind so deeply because it has such a intensive atmosphere to offer. That starts out with the many variations in the vocals in the first part of "Cruel Night". If fits so perfectly to the stomping power and the heavyness of the track.

The second part is set up with the music taking a bigger role and getting louder all the while. Yet the vocals keep up it's massive impression on the listener. It all comes over to me as a sort of musical expression full of passion. It feels as if you're giving your all and everything of  your spirit and the feelings of this very moment into this one piece of music. Just check out this epic piece of music.

Elferya are a melodic symphonic power metal band based in Switzerland. Also the band is unsigned yet they managed to gather quite a impressive Fanbase on Facebook already.

Elferya is going to celebrate the album release with a mini-tour in their homeland starting already today. Here are the dates.

23.10.2015 Switzerland, Versoix, Caves de Bonséjour

30.10.2015 Switzerland, Echallens, ZR Live Music

29.11.2015 Switzerland, Pratteln, Z7

First audioclips from upcoming Annihilator album online

Does every good time have to end some or other day? Looks like it this way. At least it is like this with Annihilator. This time Dave Padden, for 11 years now the new vocalist and guitarist of the band decided to leave. He disliked being so long on the road and being away from his other duties. A great vocalist in my eyes - he could really sing all of the Annihilator songs very, very well. This includes the massive tracks from Never, Neverland.

The good side on this is that Jeff Waters is back on vocals again. I like his voice a lot on the albums "King of the kill" and "Refresh the demon" - those are amongst my favorites of the band and he has sung on both of them.

Waters also recruited "King of the kill" bass guitar player Cam Dixon for the new album "Suicide Society". Happily we can already hear how all of the changes sound like since the band has put out a album trailer. I think you'll be surprised about Jeff's vocals. 20 years after the mentioned records his voice has developed in a new direction - maybe you'll be surprised as much as I was...

The album is going to be released on UDR Records on 18th September 2015 followed up by a European tour in autumn this year. Go and see the band's Facebook profile for the exact dates and coming updates.

Redemption

Sometimes it even helps, if a well known person does a appeareance on a album to put a spotlight on a not so well know band. This happened to me when I first heard about "Redemption". Having surfed around on dreamtheater.net the official site of the big Progmetal Band Dream Theater I spotted a news-headline saying that James LaBrie, the vocalist of the band had taken the time to perform the vocals on some of the tracks on "Snowfall on Judgement day".

That raised my interest that much that I headed over to the Redemption website  and checked out the youtube album trailer that the band had put up on the site. Wow, I remember that it flashed me. Especially the medlody of "Walls" refused to leave my head after quite a while after I had first heart it. What a powerfull but also skilled performance along with vocals that perfectly fitted to transport the feeling of a broken relationship and it's regret about it.

Looking for more information I found out that some big names stand behind this project:

Ray Alder - Vocals
Nicolas van Dyk - Guitars and Keyboards
Bernie Versailles - Guitars
Sean Andrews - Bass
Chris Quirarte - Drums
Greg Hosharian - Keyboards

In the meantime the band has put out a new album called "This mortal coil". You can hear the album trailer here. Well, let's see if it has the same effect on you then it had on me back on that special day.

Beside that a little side-note: the label of Redemption currently offers a label sampler for free download. It features a full track of the new album. Juts go in here and pick it up. A lot of people say it's one of the best labels for progmetal so you might find a little jewel when you're after a bunch of fresh progmetal.
