It's easter again, time to celebrate the (hopefully) upcoming spring time of the year.
As it is already a little tradition over here at the Metalunderdogs blog we are sort of giving away something so we can celebrate together.

Short Introduction

This year, thanks to the guys in The Dry Mouths we can enjoy the full band release catalogue totally for free. The band describes itself on Bandcamp as a "Alternative Rock band from Almeria, Spain. Their music is a mixture between the rock of the 90′, stoner and the experimentation, leaving itself to notice in the first listening influences like Nirvana, Tool, Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky, Black Sabbath or Pink Floyd."
All the four recordings of the band can be downloaded for free from Bandcamp.
This review talks about the newest release of the band the EP "Two Months" which was released at the beginning of 2015.

Summary / Player / Purchase Link

What I like most about the band is that they dare to make things differently. It's not the same odd song structure's they restrict themselves to. They do try out a lot and always look for new ways so the music never get's monotone. Plus all the artworks having something of their own, it's stuff that put's a own finishing note to each recording.

On the "Two Months" album the band is keeping things very straight forward and very hard and heavy. Nevertheless they've also used the room for some experimentation so you'll notice some unusual stuff in the music also on this newest addition to the band's release list.

Since they've set up the download as a pay what you want option you can also decide to give a little back for what you've taken by handing over some coins to the band when asked at the download page.
You can also get physical copies of "Two months" as well as for all the other three releases of The Dry Mouths. Just check the detailed descriptions at the page of each recording on Bandcamp.

In addition the band has set up a download mirror for all the albums in various quality levels on their website. Please consider to spread the word about'em in return.

The band is going to play the next show on

Apr 18th
La Boca Club
Madrid, Spain

Also make sure to keep an eye of the further band activities via Facebook on the band's website.

Track-by-Track review

Tour P-2
A powerfull beginning for the record. Starts with powerfull chords, then goes over to a forth and backward moving riff and rhythm structure. Yet the song spreads a cool feeling with it.

Tea Pex
A compact and hard riff hits this one up. It moves over to a softer section just to return back to the harder structure. Followed up by changing moments between rougher and softer sections. The Solo section is kept with very high notes.

Party & Son
A slower beginning starts this midtempo number. The tempo speeds up with a cool drum fill pattern. The refrain spreads a relaxed feeling with a different speed. Another drum pattern - very diverse. You can feel the band has some fun playing around with their music.

Cold Mind
I love the counting in of the song! A rough and very compact track but the structure makes it a cool time to listen to it. Surely one of my favorites of the band so far.

Intromental / Info Mental IV
The last song starts with a softer touch. The band shows it's more technical side on this one. The rougher edge is presented in the second part followed up by some more softer notes the band is jamming upon. Part three holds again more roughness with very powerful chords and guitar leads put inside. Some classic metal riffs towards the end before some notes leave one with the hope behind that there will be more to come of this great band.

CD Review: MONSTER - The Arrival

Note: If you have a own band or project that you think might fit in well here for a review or as a presentation / introduction please drop me a line or two in a E-Mail.  Please see my profile for my E-Mail adress. I appreciate new suggestions very much!

If you're having troubles writing in English please send me a E-Mail in your preferred language or use the free Google Translator to transfer your message to English. I also use that tool, it's of course not perfect but I think it will mostly likely work out for our purposes.

Short introduction

MONSTER started as a band in the summer of 2011. All members had some experience that they brought in from their previous bands so they knew they wanted to do something in the Thrash metal direction. They released their first demo back in 2013 as a free download through the streaming and download plattform Soundcloud. After some time guitarist Dimi Weis left the band but was replaced some time after with Klaas Olthoff. The band has released their first full length album in Juli 2014 on Souncloud also free of charge for everybody to pick up.

Short Summary / Player / Download Link

The album is great, there's absolutely no doubt for me. They remind me a lot of the old Slayer but with a sound of today's Testament and some decent Death metal influences. The sound is heavy, dark but also melodic and most of all it is a very diverse and versatile record if you give it some proper rounds of listening.

You will discover that besides the obvious brutal elements there are a lof of fine subtile elements put inside this piece of music that make it well worth your time. Even if you have a limited download amount I strongly recommend to pick it up. It's fully professionell produced and recorded and comes without taking a cent out of your pockets.

Update 2014/11/20: Finally there's a chance to get a original copy of the album on a physical CD! You can order your CD by sending a Email to the band at monsterorder@gmx.de  One CD will cost you 7 Euro including shipping and handling when you live in germany, worlwide higher shipping fees have to be count in. A CD costs 9 Euro when you order to a adress outside of germany.

Please also consider to share the word on it and/or give the band's Facebook page a like at least in return. They also have proper band T-Shirts and girlies to order for a low price so you may support the band that way if you like. You can ask them directly via E-Mail for more details. Besides that you can also follow them on Soundcloud.

Track-by-Track review
01 The Arrival
A short intro - am I in heaven or is it hell? ;-)  The song starts out with a classic riff and rhythm - kicks in with a yes it's finally going and good vibes. Very melodic at this point. Just when the vocals come in you realize it is in fact a darker song. Dark, rough vocals with a classic line. Surely some sort of death metal but not without melody and line and most of all you can still understand what you hear. Fits very well to the song. Brutal double bass drums and riffing towards the end with some excellent technique. The end comes quick and fast.

02 Chemistry of Death
Straight going in with the riff and rhythm along with the vocals.  Then a short going over with a breaker from the maintheme with very, very heavy and hard drums in there before we go back to direct rhythm of the beginning. The vocals go straight, fast and direct on this one. The first bit of the breaker can be heard towards the end again but in a very short form just before the track is suddenly over.

03 The Death of Whomsoever
The song starts with a slow doomy intro before a short drum intro directly leads over into a fast riff-hacker. Very clever done - you can still hear the song's theme in the faster part. Then it comes back to the intro from the beginning before another riff hacking part rushes into but without the background theme in it. A razor sharp solo directly hits the listener next before more vocals along with the background theme take over. The end comes fast and cool. :-)

04 When heaven and hell collide
Two nice riffs start this one along with a long scream. A hacking track with a lot of groove in it, very high tone riff before a change takes it to a more brutal, direct level. A short stopper then we go on with a very shredding solo which leads in a part similar that feels like a fusion of the groove and brutality parts before. The end comes with a drum break and some distortion.

05 Dreams in black and blood
Very straight intro with a riff-starter and heavy drums, before some mid-tempo takes over. The refrain comes with the heavier faster part in it. The second chorus comes as mid-tempo section before a slow crawling variation of the main-theme can be heard. Very, very cool and instantly grabbed my attention. Some speaking samples have been put inside. A variation on the drums with some fast double bass drums let's the listener feel that something is about to change. Some silence, hacked riffs before a progressive variation built a bridge to the refrain that can be heard one more time. After all the main-riff two short times before the song comes to the end.

06 Eternal Netherworld
A versatile riff opens up this one before it changes to a mid-tempo thrasher. The refrain uses the opening riff again and the second chorus goes as mid-tempo. A surprise comes as next since Eternal Netherworld changes to a very slow, doomy number before a drum-part brings the speed. A progressive, diverse part plays around with the theme before it comes back to the chorus riff. Before you notice the song's gone again.

07 Randome acts of undead empathy
A slow, majestic intro before this one breaks out with massive brutality. The refrain comes as a cool spoken refrain and then we rush back to more riff hacking. The second refrain, afterwards some mid-tempo variations which are a lot of fun before the song goes back to the old track. Very dark and growling vocals close this one.

08 Among the rats
A mid-tempo start here before it goes over to the main part. This brings back some of the feel well vibes of the first track of the record. The band plays around with the theme itself as well as with some variations on the speed. Fits very well. Then a break and this one changed into a riff-hacker with very powerfull double-bass pressing it through the speakers. A drum break already gives a idea of the refrain but leads over to the second chorus instead of revealing it already to the listener. A guitar intermezzo can be heard before we travel over to some more brutality and the theme from the beginning. Now it's time for the refrain! The last part of the track is a surprise again with some short and powerfull power-packs and the end feels like sort of a outro. Very melodic and spoke voice. Well, find out for yourselves what exactly this is.

Easter-Gift: Progmetal Double CD from Neverdream for free download

Time is running really fast, by now we've left the first quarter of the year behind us. It's time for the tradition to send all the old ghosts of winter to rest and to celebrate easter it with a easter fire here in germany.

And it's the time to give away little presents mostly to children but also adults surely are happy when they receive a little gift. These time I'm glad I've run across a tip that lead to the website of the band Neverdream. It's a italian progmetal band with a very unique style. Lyrically they always focus on one topic to each record, which is mostly a dark-themed one.

Most recently the band did put out a double (!!!) CD under the title of "The Circle" telling a dark thriller story. They were able to get the support of Andy Kuntz, who is the vocalist of the german progmetal band Vanden Plas. The sensation is that the band is giving away the whole record as a free download! There are also pdf files available that tell the story of the record as well as files that contain the lyrics in it's original (italian) language and in a translated english version.

Just jump over to the download page to get your copy. The older records are also available from the same page. If you like to have a physical copy of the album then click on Buy now button directly under the download images. You will get two CD's along with a 16 sided booklet.

As a alternative to that please also pay attention to the donate paypal button on the right site of the linked website directly under the website banner. Making music and recording stuff ain't free so please consider at least giving back some bucks for the stuff you've taken. If you want to stay in touch with band head over to their Facebook page and give some a like.

For all of you that like to listen to some snippets first of the record I've added the trailer to the album below. Enjoy this piece of fine music and happy easter to all of you!

Torman Maxt giving away full albums for free download

Just a short one this time since I'm currently quite busy with other stuff in real life. The Prog-Rock Band  Torman Maxt has put all of their four studio albums as a free download on their website.

I would describe their stuff as a bit of a style like the songs Saga has released. These guys do also feature christian lyrics in their music which isn't quite often a thing you can find. Anyway, I thought that this is quite a nice thing they've put up so I thought it would fit as a little christmas gift to you guys out there. Have a great christmas time and pick your download right here

Get new Savage Messiah album for free!

Well, Christmas is the time where people like to give out presents to each othere. As I already stated at some other post this often leads to a expensive december. :-) But not everything that is nice and fine must be expensive.

For example the new album of the british Thrash bands Savage Messiah has been put up totally for free for everybody to download. What a nice christmas gift for all of us Metalheads. Thank you very, very much Savage Messiah!!!!

Free and legal download of the new Savage Messiah album

Having heard the album by now I can't believe how fine quality this one is. The album comes with a fine production, critical and quality lyrics and most of all with superb songs that kick a lot of ass. In addition there's a lot of different tracks of it, so you won't be bored with a album that know's only one riff and a standard beat all the time. It's fine Thrash Metal in the tradition of bands like Brainstorm, Evile and other younger bands combining modern sounds and production with the power and heavyness of the old trademarks of bands like Testament, Xentrix and Overkill. I can only say: grab your copy right now, it's such a fine album with a cool artwork and booklet, it's very well worth the wait.

If you'd like to have a physical copy of the album on CD to support the band, here's a link where you can get the album plus a free poster and patch via the online store of their record company:

Savage Messiah @ earache Webstore

If you are not sure if it's worth the download, here's the title track for you to check out via youtube. BTW: the full album is also up there so for all of you youtube fans out there it shouldn't be hard to find the rest of the album, too also I do strngly recommend the download with the fine artwork and booklet inside along with the great songs.

Finally give their Facebook bandpage a shot to stay updated about what's going on with the band and where they are playing next.

Discover new prog bands at Progstreaming

Reading other blogs and websites is a thing I love to do. They often do have interesting info and links to sites that are not popular yet.

This site is a fine example for that. It's a blog in german talking about a new streaming website offering free full album streams of young and fresh progmetal bands that aren't known by many people.

Klangkino: Info: "Progstreaming" bietet Alben zum kostenfreie...: Wie die Überschrift schon titelt, bin ich auf eine sehr interessante Sache gestoßen, denn die Streaming-Seite Progstreaming beinhaltet dutz...

I remember having picked up the "Honour Thy Drummer - A tribute to Mike Portnoy" album and found some mindblowing bands on them. Maybe this will happen again? No one knows, but check the site out for yourselfs:
