How to chill out and find relaxing atmosphere in these troubled times? Music has the power to bring you down. This new video is the
perfect way to combine something to relax, to sing along to it and have a
creative and retro-like time out.
It is meant as a tribute to bands such as Metallica, Tool, Deep Purple, and 80's video games.
The Rift states, “We want listeners to escape from their reality for a little while. We want them to connect on a deep level, so they have something inspiring to fall into.”
The band recently inked a deal with Zombie Shark Records and has been hard at work creating new music for an upcoming release.
Front man Aris Anagnos adds, “We wanted to make songs that hit hard, but you can sing along to at the same time. Sometimes, we go bluesy-rock and other times there are tinges of punk and metal. We explore different styles while keeping a solid, real sound.”
Check the band's homepage for all the further things going on.

Live Review: Purple Rhino - Rock am Pferdemarkt Lingen 16.09.2016
Not all the young bands are into modern styles of the hard genre - this one in fact goes more back to the days of classic Hard Rock and Blues Rock of the 70s.
Introduction
I've heard of Purple Rhino several times before I saw them first live. The local newspaper here had some show announcements of the band in their news section and I knew it was one of the bands that could be worth it. But in fact it never happened due to several circumstances that it took until this years Open Air season that I could check them out.
Summary
To make things a bit more exciting I didn't look up the band on the internet before. I knew of several other live shows that it was more fun if you know nothing about them beforehand and have all the surprise at the gig. I didn't regret my decision since they put on a great set. This band reminds me of classic Rock and Metal bands in the style of Jimi Hendrix and Deep Purple.
Especially the first named influence shown through many times at their set at Rock am Pferdemarkt. Guitar player Chris put's on a good signature on the band's sound while the rhythm section keeps it more in a basic tonality and style staying mostly in the background. It should be mentioned that vocalist / bassist Felix also adds a lot to the music and gives it a fresh drive everytime things seem to get a bit in far too deep with instrumental solos. They had this one slow song on their set whose name I don't know of (that's the downside of not listening to a band's music in advance of a show :-). It had a distressing and calming effect on me while I had some sort of thrill all the while - thank you for this special moment!
Purple Rhino offer a good mixture of entertaining rock and metal music that goes straight into the heart of the listener combined with sections that will satisfy the fans that love the technical aspects, precision and timing of progressive music. The signature move toward the end when vocalist Felix and guitar player Chris got down on their knees to drive towards each other rounded out a impressive performance which is a good reason for me to keep a eye upon the further band's activities. As for me Purple Rhino were by far the best band on this year's edition of Rock am Pferdemarkt. Here is their current official video to give you a idea of the band's sound and performance.

CD Review: Strangelet - First Bite
Note: If you have a own band or project that you think might fit in well here for a review or as a presentation / introduction please drop me a line or two in a E-Mail. Please see my profile for my E-Mail adress. I appreciate new suggestions very much so don't hesitate to contact me. I'm also interested in band news / updates / tourdates so keep the stuff coming. Thanks!

1. Privilege of Power
The direct riffer for the start of the album. A uptempo track that easily kicks you in to the album. Very straight and direct it takes on a ride. But wait, it's just the beginning of it all...
2. Nothing
A stomping midtemo song. Cool whistling of the melody at the start. This one is a straight scream along track that you can go on with from the very first listening. The solo comes in very hard. Takes you even further inside and wanting to hear more.
3. Tainted
My absolute favorit! I loved this from the very start. It speaks so much of what is in my heart. It's a beautiful midtemo hymm. The refrain will let you sing along again. The keyboards set the deep mark with vocals here for the first time. This is when you're really inside music! A organic song that goes straight to the heart.
4. Pray To Break
The intro comes very mythical, followed up by a straight uptempo rocker. The hammond sounding keyboards form the theme of the song, while the vocals come very stretched out on this one. A modern way of songwriting in here but one that fits to the mood of the music.
5. Stillborn
A half ballad with much guitars and punch. It feels like a song for the empty days in your life. The bass comes in very cool while the guitars add one of these shining moments that you seldomly find in music. A riff breaker takes the song to a heavier level with much keyboards and shred guitars. Some echoing notes and last notes form a unusual ending to the song. Well worth listening to it.
6. Snakebite
The intro comes in very epic. A riff-ripper this one turns out to be a very straight go-along track with hypnotic keyboards once again. The end is very progressive and jammed along like. Reminds the most of Deep Purple this one.
7. Hell & Back
Keyboards start this one up, a solid midtemo stomping track. The song goes back-and-forth in structure but let's you easy walk along to it.
8. Touch The Sky
A very edgy and progressive one, the riffs hack hard around on this piece of music. A rough cut-refrain, the keyboards play a major role jamming a lot inside the track.
9. Catching Fire
The start is very balladesque this one is a hard midtempo pushing track. The keyboards have a very distinct hammond note and also form the end of the track.
10. All That's Left
My heart's broken this one seems to scream! Very strong vocal performance that is only followed by some keyboards. Surely a challenge to each singer. Guitars only at the end of this forming a soft solo and ending to "All that's left".

Short Introduction
The unsigned german band Strangelet plays Heavy Rock that is heavily influenced with Sleaze and Metal elements. The band has a constant line-up since 2012 and played over 30 gigs in about two years. Their full length album "First Bite" has been self-written, self-produced (Jonas on keys is also the prospective sound engineer and producer of the band) and self financed. The mastering was done by Stem Masters Munich (J.B.O., Fiddler´s Green…). Currently the band is already in the process of writing material for the next release of the band.

Summary / Player
This album came as a total surprise to me and it struck me hard. I wasn't sure what to expect of a band with this mixture of elements but this is a must have to all those people loving music that is hard rocking at mostly midtempo speed. All tracks come fully dedicated and the band gave it's full heart blood to make each song a unique experience.
Their sound is hard to compare to but I would most compare them to Unisonic or Gotthard but with a strong addition of keyboards to the sound that remind me a lot of the good old Deep Purple. It's this full dedication of the sound along with the vocals that have some touch of Gotthard-like spirit that makes them something special. In fact it is a outstanding debut record. It's music that could describe various days in your life, each with a different vibe. 11 days of your life...
You can check out the full album from the website of the band. I've also added the two promotional videos at the track by track section to give you a fast idea of the band's sound. The record can be ordered as a pressed Compact Disc for 10 Euro plus shipping and handling through the E-Mail contact adress of the band. Please see the linked contact page of the band for the mail adress. A MP3 download version of the album is available as well from the same contact adress. There's also some merchandise available like a T-Shirt. Just ask the band for the details.
Update 2015/06/11: If you live in Japan and would like to buy the CD you may do so at the shop of Anderstein Music.
Update 2015/03/09: For all visitors from the USA/Canada - the album is also available from CD Baby. The download is available for 9,99 Dollar.

Rewind to Wacken 2013 and 2012 with german TV station zdf kultur
It has just been announced that Wacken Open Air 2014 will be broadcasted by the german TV station 3Sat live. Great news!
For all those of you who would like to re-live some of the (hopefully) sweet memories of the both past events I've got great news as well:
German TV station zdf.kultur will broadcast stuff from Wacken Open Air 2013 and 2012 on the upcoming Saturday night 19th to 20th of April 2014.
For exact timetable and bands see the notices below, all times are german time. Maybe these stuff can also be seen through the webstream of the TV station at the online-webstream of the station but I don't have proper information if there is a region-lock active so go and just try your luck.
Update 2014/04/20: Missed it out? The TV station still streams all the shows on demand for free. Same here with region-lock so just click on the artist name to see if it works outside germany, too. Bandnames without a link seem to have given no permission for streaming.
Besides that there are many more goodies to find there, too. Just click on this search-string to show off what there is, for example interviews but also the big cut-together shows seem to be still up for viewing. Keep in mind that this might only last for a limited time, so better hurry.
20:15 Wacken 2013: Alice Cooper und Motörhead
21:15 Wacken 2013: Deep Purple
22:15 Wacken 2013: ASP
23:15 Wacken 2013: Lingua Mortis Orchestra Featuring Rage
00:10 Wacken 2012: Dimmu Borgir & Orchestra und Cradle of Filth
01:10 Wacken 2012: Sepultura & Les Tambours du Bronx
02:05 Wacken 2012: In Flames
03:05 Wacken 2012: Testament
04:05 Wacken 2013: Anthrax

First songs of upcoming Deep Purple tributealbum revealed
Sadly Jon Lord passed away earlier this year, as I've mentioned in a previous post. Big names in the Heavy Metal universe have decided to put together a tribute album entitled ‘Re-Machined: A Tribute to ‘Machine Head’ to honor the great band Deep Purple.
10 songs are set to be released on September 25th in America featuring coverversions from bands like Metallica, Chickenfoot, Iron Maiden, Glenn Hughes and many more. Ultimate Classic Rock has revealed six of the tracks of the album already and they think it might be a album worth buying. In addition they give us the chance to hear the six songs as stream. The following bands and songs can be heard:
Metallica ‘When a Blind Man Cries’
Chickenfoot ‘Highway Star’
Glenn Hughes, Steve Vai & Chad Smith ‘Highway Star’
Kings of Chaos ‘Never Before’
Black Label Society ‘Pictures of Home’
The Flaming Lips ‘Smoke on the Water’
Wanna hear the songs? Go over here and enjoy it. :-)

In Memoriam Jon Lord
On 16th of July 2012 Jon Lord sadly passed away. R.I.P. Jon.
German TV station ARD has shortly changed it's TV schedule and will broadcast in the night from the 20th to the 21st July 2012 a recording of a legendary Deep Purple show recorded on 09.07.1985 in Paris, Palais Omnisports.
More info on this can be viewed on the homepage of the TV station.
Update 24th July 2012: the concert will be shown again in the night of the 29th to the 30th July starting at 01.15 h (geman time) at the TV station WDR. That station also has a online-stream running, so depending upon the rights of the broadcast you might be able to watch it online if you don't live in germany.

Axel Rudi Pell
After all the riffs and heavy beats I think it's time to get a bit more laid back and slow it down a bit musicalwise. It's about seasons change here in germany. Autumn is about to arrive. The perfect time for some metal ballads by Axel Rudi Pell. His traditional metal with strong influences from Rainbow and Deep Purple is known by many, yet not by everyone. The band is going to release their next ballad compilation and have set up a free and legal pre-listening of this record. Lets relax and enjoy some fine songs sung by Johnny Gioeli, some of the best vocalists I've heard so far.
