Smile Empty Soul send a Savior your way

Sometimes there's a need to have a band and song that kicks you out of everyday feelings.

Smile Empty Soul have put out a new single "Savior".

I've had Smile Empty Soul on my radar for a long time now but never found the proper moment to blog about them. The newest single "Savior" is such a good treat if you feel down and pressed. The performance of the drummer gives me the feeling as if it is knocking down my bad feelings.

In the vocals you can find a well balanced way of softer verses and a slight and good dosed potion of roughness in the refrain. It fit's so much to this "we kick it all away" moment but it's never done a overloaded way so it always remains in it's true and natural art.

The alt-rock veterans have picked this song as a preview of their upcoming EP, Swan Song, which is scheduled for release at the end of the year through TLG|ZOID / Virgin Music Group.

Check the video out to get your Monday kick now or stream the music on the service of your choice.

Make sure to follow the band on Facebook or simply call up the band's website from time to time to check back for news updates.

Tytus create a pressure-filled intensity on Roaming in despair

I've been following this band for some time now but it wasn't until now that the music got me. It feels like the last piece of something has been missing before. What has changed so much?

The cover illustrates the message of the new single very well.

I think this time around Tytus wrote a short song with cool intro and a powerfilled atmosphere that throws out the music with much pressure and compression yet the very melodic refrain sticks into my mind for a long time. Plus there is a message in it that maybe more people can relate to in these times.

A band spokesperson commented: "We're thrilled to release this brand-new lyric video for the title track of our latest EP, 'Roaming In Despair.' This video is inspired by and dedicated to every individual who has been forced to wander hopelessly through lands, seas, and lives. We invite everyone to come aboard and experience this journey, if you dare!"

"Roaming In Despair" is an exploration of human strength and resilience in the face of adversity.  Just follow the band on Bandcamp or their own homepage for more information and upcoming updates.

Corners Of Sanctuary offer rough & dirty new material on Gatefold LP

The new material the Philadelphia based traditional metallers have put out this year feels like being more on point. The sounds are heavier, hard-hitting and they feel like a layer of darkness has been added to the overall sound structures.

The year-long release reign finishes with a chance for a vinyl album.

Anyway the songs didn't flew in as one release but have been distributed as two EPs called Blood and Steel Volume One and Two. Now the time has come to finish the move with a decent album "Blood and Steel: Fight Till the End".

This installment combines Volumes One and Two plus additional tracks completing the year long journey. The fine thing is that besides the digital release and a CD this particular one has the chance to come as a vinyl LP into your hands.

Currently 100 units are on offer as a 150g Black gatefold vinyl through a pre-order page of RFL Records.

This format feels different and I think its suits very well to the sound Corners Of Sanctuary are working on so it would add a rougher and more dirty tone to your listening enjoyment.

The newest video “Into the Night (I Still Remember)” reflects to what I've written above. Besides the sound it's also the video that kicks me so heavy into their music.

Finally you can also see them live in 2022 if that's the best experience for you.

Sense Of Fear shot a new single out of nowhere

Sense of Fear is one of the oldest active heavy metal bands based in Northern Greece. I know they had a lot of trouble getting the first releases ( a EP and their full-length album titled "As the Ages passing by") together which took them a long time to get it all done. In fact they have my deepest respect that they sticked to what they wanted to archive no matter how bad things went.

So today I was very surprised to find the newest single in my inbox. The music also goes a fast and straight forward route taking a more thrashy style this time. If you're after something going straight for the kill - this track has it all.

But soundwise it also comes with specials in it. The vocals are held a bit in the background but step to the front at the proper moments. It feels balanced this way for me but may sound strange at the first listening round.

No one can tell what the future holds. Maybe more is to come, maybe not - I think we'll have to stay in connection with Sense of Fear to find out.

Share new Blameshift video for a chance to win a PRS Guitar

If you share this video of the US powerhouse Blameshift on YouTube you're in for a special treat. The band is raffling a handpainted PRS guitar among all those who participate. Be quick this only lasts 'til end of this month (March 2021).
This is how the guitar looks like.

As for the music: the song is a fine tuned track that combines straight rock patterns and riffing with female vocals that emphasize on the proper timings when the music reaches it's highs and softer points. I like the catchy style without losing it's power or the needed pressure.

The band recorded more tunes in the meantime with Erik Ron (Godsmack, New Years Day, Panic! At The Disco) on the helm. Make sure to keep a eye on Facebook so you won't miss out on what's to come.

Serenity redefine sound on upcoming album The Last Knight (Europe dates inside)

I remember that I first saw Serenity live the time they opened up for Morgana Lefay in 2007. They played a sort of progressive metal with lots of heartfelt melodies and lyrics that spoke from my heart.

After the show I had the chance of speaking to Georg Neuhauser and get some autographs of nearly the whole band. That experience lead me to follow Serenity through more symphonic times and now they are about to send a new album out to the world called "The Last Knight".

The album talks about the life of the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I..

The first appetizer sounds like a much heavier form of the band's sound yet some of the above mentioned heartfeltness is still to be found in there. All in all it's more based on riffs and the refrain hangs on my mind. The newfound power in the music is a kicker and teases me a lot towards the new material. "The Last Knight" will be out on January 31, 2020. Pre-Order is available here.

Also make sure to show up to the coming tour.

Rev Jones films new video on iPhone

How much can be done with having a iPhone at hand when it comes to filming a new music video? Rev Jones has done this experiment and the result is impressive in my eyes. Never thought that such kick-ass music clip can be realized with such a limited ressource.
The cover of the album "Bakwash" by bass guitar player/vocalist Rev Jones, (c) by Rev Jones
The music is going straight and gave me a good push of power I needed. The refrain is catchy and once heard it's not going to leave your mind so quickly. Sometimes the song reminds a bit of Motörhead but this only adds to the fun of listening. The bass playing techniques shown in this video are great and should be a inspiration to all the four string heads out there. Same goes for the drums and guitars which show some nice tricks every here and there (Jim Dofka on guitar, Jeff Martin on the drums).

Rev Jones is known in the rock world for his amazing bass techniques & his crazy energetic stage presence, as seen onstage all over the world with several major acts, Steelheart, Leslie West, Michael Schenker Group (MSG), Mountain, Fuel, George Lynch, Paul Gilbert, Kottak, Black Symphony, Blasted To Static, Gundriver, Texas Hippie Coalition, and Forte, just to name a few.

It's the title track of album with the same name "Bakwash" that Rev Jones put out earlier this year. Be sure to pick a copy while having a look on his homepage that also holds more listening samples of the album.

Darkwell bridge time with intensive performance video

Symphonic metallers Darkwell released their album "Moloch" to positive reactions some time ago. As the band told me they're currently back in songwriting mode having taken a break before.

The cover of Darkwell's "Moloch" already shows that something different from all the other is going on with the sound of this band.
To help skip the waiting time until something new surfaces the band has taken the chance to put out a live video of the "Moloch" track "Clandestine". That one picked my attention. It captures the joy but also the full concentration the musicians put into their performance really well. It also shows the reactions of the audience starting positive but let's say in a waiting way. They move over to realise the quality of the material and finally giving back with positive feedback.

Make sure to keep track of what's going on further with a like click on Darkwell's Facebook page or see the band's website for updates.

Reason Define sort sound with deviding sections

Some bands have this something in their sound. It feels to me as if a song is sorted into sections through a devider that works as a bridge. That's something fine in my ears. It's like you can clearly spot that one part already finished and which part is going to be played as next  Looks like this all-female Charlotte/North Carolina based 5 piece had something similar in mind when they put together a new video single.

Reason Define have a package of great riffs for you. The band photo was taken by Obscvre Photography.

Reason Define did this in a special way for me. The track "Pointing Fingers" has many sections in that are build up the way I described in the column before. Besides that the music is power filled and breathes the fire of blazing riffs in them. The drums are straight and pushing but always clear to follow. In addition a nice story has been build into the music video but just see for yourselves...

Make sure to check the website and socials since this is only one song of the new package "In Memory" that has been released in March 2019 already.

Have a break from everyday troubles with The Rift

How to chill out and find relaxing atmosphere in these troubled times? Music has the power to bring you down. This new video is the perfect way to combine something to relax, to sing along to it and have a creative and retro-like time out.

It is meant as a  tribute to bands such as Metallica, Tool, Deep Purple, and 80's video games.

The Rift states, “We want listeners to escape from their reality for a little while. We want them to connect on a deep level, so they have something inspiring to fall into.”

The band recently inked a deal with Zombie Shark Records and has been hard at work creating new music for an upcoming release.

Front man Aris Anagnos adds, “We wanted to make songs that hit hard, but you can sing along to at the same time. Sometimes, we go bluesy-rock and other times there are tinges of punk and metal. We explore different styles while keeping a solid, real sound.”

Check the band's homepage for all the further things going on.

Voyager set a Brightstar at Australia

Some bands are giving me exactly what I need. Voyager, a progressive band mixing up metal with pop-like elements has brought a brand new (video) single to life.

The cover already gives a idea that something special is about to come your way...
It demonstrates once more the band's ability to express softer, melodic elements that touch the soul and give room for dreams and atmosphere. On the contrary there are always rougher corners showing up making clear how much of the agression, raw power and heavyness also lives in the soul of the band. Along with bright pictures of nature and technique it's a overwhelming feeling that floats through me listening to "Brightstar".

If you're living in Australia don't miss out the chance to see Voyager live these days. They hit the road with the excellent Twelve Foot Ninja, a crossover act that also didn't leave my mind once I heard them.

Shim speaks about negativity in time of renewal

The start of the upcoming month march will see two artists touring the United States that both have much life exerience. They've faced the darker side of life and share what they've come along with the listener. In some or another way they also hand a advice on how to react in such situations.

Shim is going to hit the road in March 2019 along with Madame Mayhem as opening act.

Shim had to rework and reintervent his life after his split with the band Sick Puppies to be able to move on. He recalls many people standing in his way during this period. But he used the input to make something of it - as inspiration to create lyrics to his music.

"The video portrays the dilemma that when faced with a life changing decision it won’t just change your life, it will change the person you become within it. Over the course of the last couple of years of rebuilding and reinventing myself, I had a lot of people try and dissuade me, or attempt to stop me, or attempt to Crucify me. How you handle yourself under those circumstances dictates the person you will become.

This is who I am.

I am SHIM"

Madame Mayhem talks about the unpleasant surprises we all have to deal with in life. Is there any way out of this?  The artist shares her view on this "(...) There’s no escaping the darkness. Life is full of unpleasant surprises. Real and  imagined disasters, from outside forces and from within, threaten at every turn. But those who learn to control and command the chaos will triumph.(...)".

Since music talks much stronger than words ever  make sure to show up to the shows. Nothing's ever as intense and makes you learn quickly than being at the venue for yourselves. And it gives fresh power to move on with your own life.

Rough Silk back with new video and tourdates

Rough Silk ran across my way many times. First of all way back in 1994 when the band opened up for Helloween. I didn't knew the band before at all but was positively surprised of their sound. Most of all the song "Walls Of Never" left behind something in me.

I kept a eye on them the following years, bought the double best of CD "Wheels Of Time". The german progressive rockers kept changing line up and also the sound changed from lenghty and epic tunes to compact riff rockers.

These days the band sounds more tight and straight fowards than ever before. In addition to putting out a new album "Progressive Oi! Pop" they've put out a decent video showing the new formed band in action in the studio. Besides the work it also captures a lot of the fun moments of those days.

Leftover Bullets show us how it is to be confused

Christmas draws near. I think a lot of you guys out there (including me) feel stressed of all the things to do in preparation of the festivities. Sometimes you feel as if it is simply too much of all of it. You feel as if you could turn nuts.

Greek rockers Leftover Bullets have prepared a brand new video speaking out of a soft cell. The band performs the new single with the bands full dedication that is a mark they set on all of their tunes I've hard so far.

The logo of Greece Hard Rockers Leftover Bullets makes it clear of what to expect of the band's sound

You'll quickly feel their dedication in how the track builds up, the way all the instruments come together and the vocals set to fit in.

On some parts the band is shown in black and white clothes changing properly to the bounce of the single. It's fine metal with sharp tuned riffs that lead you into the mood. The guitar solo reminds of bigger names like Guns 'N' Roses showing how much vital skill the band has in it's hand's. Make sure to watch the full vid, the end is well worth a look. :-)

Leftover Bullets have a Bandcamp page. It has a T-Shirt with the logo from above to offer for a small price in various sizes as well as the first full album in digital format. Remember that you can gift someone with that. You can build a nice gift card and print it out to hand it to the lucky one. You may also email the card as a alternative.

Have a click on the like button of their Facebook page to keep in touch or go the oldschool route having regulary a look on the band's website.

Jeffrey Nothing releases breathing, deeply touching new music

Some songs breathe a own atmosphere and vibe. This particular one feels unique to me. It's the coming together of the varity of vocal parts as well as the mixed level of heavyness. On top of this the feelings that spread through me while listening & watching are outstanding. It's something of it's own, something not to be found elsewhere. Also make sure to check the words from Jeffrey Nothing underneath the video. I think a lot of you can relate to what they express.

Jeffrey Nothing (also known as Jeff Hatrix), co-founding member of Mushroomhead, has resurfaced with his solo project Jeffrey Nothing (also known as NOTHING), along with fellow former Mushroomhead guitarist Thomas Church, following their departure from the band in March of 2018. Also appearing is former Motograter and The Browning drummer Noah “Shark” Robertson, vocalist Ian Sniesak, bassist Kahler Hatrix, among other members yet to be announced.

Make sure to see them live:

October 6 – RocktoberFest 2018 Day 1 (Iola, Kansas)
October 13 - RocktoberFest 2018 Day 2 (Chanute, Kansas)

The artwork for the single "Fragile Mind" was created by tattoo artist Tony Kelly

Nothing has released the following statement:

“This song wrote itself. Life takes odd twists and turns and sometimes finds dead ends... Creativity is a gift, yours to guide you through peace of mind and life experiences... we choose our paths. We alone should command our directions, our course to happiness and never despair, no matter what anyone else believes or demands… Ever.

Fragile Mind is one of many, great new songs I have had the pleasure of being a part of. Working with people with heart and yes: Soul is incredible, to say the very least. Thomas Church, Noah Robertson, Ian Sniesak, Kahler Hatrix and others have brought huge smiles and laughter and other emotions, long dead back to the creative process. Art isn’t about orders or demands. It is about doing what you love. When you decide, with who you choose.

A new Jeffrey NOTHING release is so close. We have a plethora of music and amazing minds helping to construct a living, breathing Monster of a musical journey. Our fans deserve NOTHING, but Love too. Happiness is on the horizon. New music and real tours are coming... Soon to be set free, for all to enjoy. Thanks for the patience and hope. Renewed.

Yours truly, JN”

The W.A.B. keep it short and heavy on new clip

Does a good song need to be long? I don't think so. This particular one of the brutal Punkband W.A.B. is just round 1 minute and 51 seconds in duration and kicks it heavy and straight. It reminds me of old Motörhead tracks that also got straight to the meat.

Anyway, it still has it's fine notes worked in every here and there so it's not only a brutal whirlwind all the way. There's also a surprising part coming in at the end. I love that - it freshes the whole song up and shows what the band is able to do in songwriting.

This is already the third single the band has put out. It's taken of the record "...and kill the worms" available from Suburban Attack Records. The cool thing is that this band only consists of two people and the drummer also does the vocals. That's something I rarely came along. If you happen to know of other sticksmen that also serve the words - please let me know.

Follow The W.A.B. further with a liker on Facebook or show them your support on Bandcamp.

P.S. Also make sure to listen to the other singles on Bandcamp, you won't be disappointed if you already liked this heavy 'n' quick introduction into the band's sound.

Dirty Machine release heartouching and groundshaking new video

I love music videos. They can be such a strong force to express a topic in a way few other things can do. It's the combination of music and moving pictures that also caught my attention on this one.

From my perspective this one talks about problems in relationsships. It seems as if the woman wants to talk but the guy refuses to show any reaction. How does it end? Look for yourselves - just sayin' that the end surprised me...

This video single comes of the hand's of Dirty Machine, a nu metal band. It's impressive to hear how hard this style can be. After a mixed start it unfolds it's massive sonic detonation through the mixture of the vocalist performances that complement each other to erupt at a full explosion at the end. The hard knocking drums with the fine notes on the guitars put it even deeper in my mind and the DJ effects throw in more drive to the already explosive mixture.

The coverart for "Further from you" created by Jayden Braley and Jason Lindley. , (c) by Dirty Machine, used with kind permission

The track is the latest single of the band. Check the subpage on the band's current label Zombie Shark Records for a list of retailers that sell the track and keep a constant eye on Dirty Machine (I'll do for sure) - on Facebook.

The Dry Mouths share strong summer feelings with new video

Summer is finally here! So we need the proper soundtrack to celebrate those long lasting days and endless evenings. The Dry Mouths have just released a new video that fits to what I'm looking for.

"This Could Be The Beginning Of A Beautiful Friendship" is a beautifully worked out song - so warm and intensive. This time it's a more slower tune that the power trio released but it changes towards the end with few more rougher moments worked in. The same goes for the pictures. They seem to me like filmed through the lens of those feelings related to my favorite time of the year. Feells like in the old days and reminds me why I love watching music videos so much.

You can pick up the song as part of their current EP "When the water smells of sweat" which is available for a few bucks on CD and Vinyl (or a package of both) from the Band's store or via Email.

Video Preview: Inoculum - Dissimulate (Alternative Groove Metal, 2018)

These days so many bad comments and hate floots the internet in my eyes.
The world badly needs some antidote. This band based from the Baltimore, MD (USA) area provides ripping out all these dark stuff and leaves behind some light with their upcoming new videosingle "Dissimulate".

The logo of the Alternative Groove Metal band Inoculum, (c) by Inoculum, used with kind permission

Heavy Metal Underdogs has been given the honour to check out the brand new Inoculum video in advance as a private screening. I was blown away by the sheer power and the will to create something that lasts as a piece of unique sound. That's why I would like to say that the guys play Dedicated Metal. It's comin' deeper from the heart than anything else out there.

The new track "Dissimulate" in detail
What got me so much about their sound is the combination of brutality and softer undernotes mixed  in. The song builds up softer, adds up with extra power and finally blows out the energy in one blast. It's not often coming along my way that the drummer takes over vocal duties. Here you can spot this rare ocassion and it's a fine contrast to the brutal assault of the main vocals. On other parts of the song both harmonize which adds a extra to the already excellent track.

The guitar riffs vary but give a more underlining note to the sound while the drums groove straight away something that's heavily supported through the use of a dark and deep toned bass sound. Inoculum doesn't just play the notes but lives them out with heartblood. The song feels nearly endlessly. I think a show of these guys must be a very intensive experience.

Video preview snippets
So far you can spot some scenes of the video on the start page of the band's world wide web presence.I think it will come with a deeper meaning. So far you can see some TV's that are destroyed and books burned by masked people taking people away from their places.

Well I think we need to wait until April 1st 2018 to know what the band exactly wants to express with this moving picture. The band has announced to premiere the video on their homepage.

Social Contacts and Future plans
Make sure to have a eye on their socials on Facebook or Instagram and Twitter to stay up to date in the meantime on how things move on. The band also has plans to tour with their material so promoters out there looking for a good band to book in the upcoming months would make a good pick with booking Inoculum.

From Ashes To New look behind bad relationships

Are human relationsships always a good and fine thing? Sure they often are complicated and it can also be something that let's you suffer. Somehow these thoughts came around to me while I was listening to this brand new video of From Ashes to New.

A bandpicture of the revamped band From Ashes To New. Photo Credit: Graham Fielder

Most of all the way the vocals express the lyrics I could imagine a person having a relationsship bringing them to insanity and no end suffering. I hope the one being talked about is on the way to feeling better this present days.

As for me I'd encourage everyone out there to let go of negative connections. It's not worth it. You spent endless time and energy on something that won't work out in the end. Don't hesitate or think about it any longer. Make a clear decision. Make a cut. You'll feel better when it's over.

This single is a first teaser of the new From Ashes To New record "The Future" that will see the light of day 20th April 2018. So far I'd say it goes a far more direct and bringing things on point attitude to the table than the previous material did but of course I've become cautious of judging albums too early. One song hardly can tell anything of how the full length will turn out. That's at least what I've learned this far.

It's for sure a good idea to follow the band through Facebook or on Instagram to keep a further eye on the next steps towards the album release.
