Collectors Item: Antidote - The Truth (Re-Issue Announcement)

Sometimes it's surprising when information about a band surfaces that you've already thought to be lost in time. One of these moments just happened when I heard about the finish band Antidote again.

Having heard 'em first way back in 1998 on a sampler of the Rock Hard magazine I couldn't get the progressive thrashers out of my mind. Their song "The Mind Alive" was way to strong to leave behind so some time afterwards I found myselves happy enough to be able to purchase this album of the same name. It is the second one in the band's career and features the more melodic site of the band.

Back to present days I received a note saying that Minotauro Records is going to re-issue ANTIDOTE'S "The Truth" album along with a Bonus CD w/ Demos from 1990 to 1992 restored and remastered!

"The Truth" is the band's first album, originally released in 1992. As far as I know this record features more of the heavier side of the band and Nino Laurenne was singing differently on this one, too. Anyway I thought this info to be of value for all of you collectors out there. More info is said to follow soon. I'll update this article once more stuff will come in, so please stay tuned.

ANTIDOTE line-up:
Mika Arnkil - Drums (later with Impaled Nazarene)
Nino Laurenne - Vocals (lead), Guitars (now with Thunderstone)
Pete Peltonen - Bass, Vocals (backing)
Tuomo Louhio - Guitars, Vocals (backing) (later with Impaled Nazarene)

CD Review: Dö - Tuho (Dark Stoner Doom Metal/2016)

This album has a calming and positive effect on me. It helps you to distress from things and besides that comes with much variations in the songs.

Introduction

Dö is a dark stoner doom trio from Helsinki, Finland. The origins of the band go all the way back to 2007, but the current style has been developed only for a few years. The men behind the wall of sound are Deaf Hank (Bass & Vox), Big Dog (Guitar & Vox) and Joe E. Deliverance (Drums & Vox - 'E' stands for 'Epic')

The band's music is a genuine combination of stoner, doom, sludge with death/black metal twists here and there.  "Tuho" has been released in April 2016 and is the second release of the trio.

Summary

The record that comes under the title of "Tuho" (meaning Devastation) has a dark basic tonality no question. The vocals are black and doomy but the music has a constant movement and note inside of it. It's this continuous song structure that makes me feel positive about it. It's like that the songs go slowly but they always move along. They may never take big steps but you feel all along that they keep the direction. It's this permanent movement that makes me feel so good about it.

The first two tracks are typical for this style. The production is heavy and strong but there's also much clearness in the sound. The drums for example shine through fine and clear something that cannot be found too often in these musical style. Everblast II (The Aftermath) is a bit faster, yet it's still midtempo, something much welcome to me in times where music often tends to be played all just too fast.

Ex Oblivione is a surprise It's a slow track with a great melody inside and feels as if it has been written in a jamming session. But beware: it's a great song that unfolds slowly just to blast you away towards the end. One of the best tracks I've heard in a long time!

Kylmä is a bit mixed to me. A rough and edgy track but I somehow dislike it. I doesn't feel so harmonic through it's various parts in it so I don't like it as much as the other numbers on the record.

The album closes out with the shortest and the longest songs of the whole release. The first one Hail The Fire comes as a short clear guitar intermission - a welcome pause after the rough music in the track before. Forsaken Be Thy Name reminds me the most of the longtracks that Black Sabbath did release back in their early days. A mighty riffer with a jammed melodic and clear intermission part. You nearly don't notice when it's over that it was about twelve mintes long. A great way to round out a fine release.

Album stream

The full record can be heard from the Bandcamp widget below.

Purchase-Link

The album is available as a paid download on Bandcamp. If you decide to give a few bucks more you'll have the chance to get your hands on one of the CD-R copies. The price includes worlwide shipping so it could be a nice addition to your stoner/doom collection. It's well worth the money since I guess a lot of the fans of the mentioned genres will pick the album up often to have another listen and relax from the daily stress.

Contact Data

Be sure to keep in touch with Dö using Facebook or Twitter, maybe you'd also like to add them to your watch list on Spotify. They are looking for a label to release the album on vinyl so if there's someone interested out there - don't hesitate to contact them!

Reveries End takes a journey through a ocean of emotions

The vocals on this one speak so much about the contrast between good and bad. The feelings first keep you in a melancholic feel with thoughts spinning through time. Some darkness comes rushing in with blacked styled vocals.

The songs structure changes to a more moving feeling that seems to be feed from the dark voice. Finally the softer tonality comes back before a final dark parts let's the song come to a end. A haunting musical experience, a journey through emotions and feelings as they come and go through the human mind...

Reveries End is a female fronted melancholic metal band founded in the spring of 2011 in Tampere, Finland.
The song "A Thousand Facets" is taken of the current album "Edge Of Dark Waters" which is going to be released on 28th February 2016 via Sliptrick Records.

Sadly female vocalist Sariina who was a vital part of Reveries End has decided to leave the band. The band is currently looking for a new voice so if you feel you have what it takes please don't hesitate and contact them through the band's website or use Facebook to get in touch.

Justice Theorey release group-playthrough video for new single

If you've ever wanted to know instantly how to play that brand new track you've just heard from a band then Justice Theorey give you a chance to quickly get the idea of how to play that track properly.

Entitled "Necessary evil" the thrash metal band based in Finland have not "only" released that brand new song to the public but along with it a video with the mentioned insight of how to do it. The song itself is kept straight forward in a hard and dry way. I like the way of the production. It gives all instruments as well as the vocals the possibility to come out clearly. You can hear exactly what's going on, it's not so much confusion in it where you just have to listen several times to get through the various parts to point them all out.

Justice Theory plays a release show for the single/video at Rock Club Lutakko, Jyväskylä (Finland) on January 23rd 2016. So make sure to be there to give the band a good feedback for this excellent track.

Also make sure to follow the band further using Facebook or Twitter. This video has made me curious on the band so I've given 'em a like.
