Senate Of Prevail explore the Hollow Ground

Sometimes it's cool to see how the songwriting in metal bands has evolved over the years.

Looking back to the classic days you could nearly always be sure that there was this verse - refrain way the lyrics were build upon. After that there was another verse and refrain followed by the guitar solo just to lead into the final repeat of the refrain again. The song finished some or other way and that was the way we knew and it and I think most of us loved it.

These days bands attempt it differently. Some tracks start for example straight away with the vocals coming straight in directly at the beginning. Sometimes the vocals are present all the time never giving a break for the solo that is missed out completly.

But most of all the refrains cannot be spotted immediately as such. In the old days it was always the peak of the music. These times the refrains are often build inside not leaving the overall song structure but keeping the structure intact. Nevertheless they can be something that burns down deep in your mind. Try this song below to hear what I'm talking about.

These were my thoughts when Sweden's Senate Of Prevail came around with a brandnew track called "Hollow Ground". Not only that the song kicks from start to finish but most of all it has this dominate vocals with it that rush through the full track duration making it a hell of a ride but with this refrain worked in that won't leave my mind now anymore.

Check it out for yourselves and pick up the track as free download while it's still up. While you're waiting for the data transmission to finish see the band's social site on Facebook, Instagram and on Soundcloud. Be sure to mark those with a like or follow. We need to make this band coming back in my eyes. Maybe if we call loud enough for them they will come back? I hope for that and would like to ask you kindly to support me in this mission.

Senate of Prevail look back on the past time with new video

Memories can be sweet gifts. Sure they also can be bad and often we tend to look upon the bad those. It's so easy to forget the good things that happened in a world that is filled with problems.

Anyway, the swedish band Senate of Prevail currently is on hold after having powered all around for nearly a full year with recordings and live performances. They gathered some fans during that process including me and I've posted many of their stuff here on my blog. Just click this link to get a fast overview on those posts. I miss those days...

Happily the guitarist Peter Jonsson recently looked through the band's video archives and compiled a clip showing some nice scenes of the band's history. He also mixed a older track of Senate Of Prevail called "October Sky" and put both things together. The video shows material that has never before seen in any of the band's videos that came out during the last months.

It's well worth checking out. It's the music but also the memories that got me so quickly. My favoite scene is Anton Forsman playing the drum kit at the start of the video and looking like the "Wasn't I supposed to do this?" look at the end and then Pecka Wexell (the drummer of the band) comes rushing in with the forklift as some sort of reaction. :-)

Enjoy these sweet memories and keep an eye on the band's Facebook page. Who know's maybe one day they'll be back? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that!

Tad Morose to kick off European Tour in September in support of new album "St. Demonius"

Things may take a while in life but in the end they can turn out for the good. That's what I thought when I got the info that Tad Morose will finally be able to play a proper tour for their brand new record entitled "St. Demonius". The band will be joined by their fellow countrymen in Silent Call, so you'll also be able to discover a new band if you don't know them yet. I've discovered a lot of new bands live and often it was a very pleasant surprise that came my way. So one more reason to go to one of the shows. :-)

The complete tour dates are shown on the poster below.

(c) by Tad Morose, used with kind permission

Tad Morose have been part of the heavy metal scene for over 20 years, and so far time they released seven studio albums. Their newest, eighth offering, "St. Demonius" is scheduled for the August 28th release via Despotz Records. The new album is the second release in a row featuring ex-Steel Attack singer Ronny Hemlin, after the release of 2013's "Revenant."

In an interview with metalshockfindland.com, guitarist Christer "Krunt" Andersson said about the new album following: "It’s Tad Morose kind of metal, a little bit more of everything I think. A lot of the lyrics are about the crap that’s going around in today’s world, people never ever seem to learn from history. And all the religious bullshit that’s going on, why can’t people just sit back, shut up, play heavy metal, drink beer, smile and have a good time? Let everyone believe in whatever they believe, as long as they don’t hurt anybody. That’s a lot of the things going on in the lyrics."

If you haven't heard some music of the new Tad Morose record then here is the video for "Your own demise" for you to check out.

Tad Morose release first videoclip for the new album St. Demonius

Yes, this time it happily didn't took that long. ;-) After a 10 year's break from releasing a new album Tad Morose returned in 2013 with a powerfull, hard and riff-filled album called "Revenant".

Having played some shows in the meantime the band didn't hesitate to write new songs and has now announced that the next .album "St. Demonius" is ready for release on August 28th 2015. The tracklist goes like this:

1. Bow to the Reaper's Blade
2. Forlorn
3. Where Ignorance Reigns
4. Remain
5. Black Fire Rising
6. Day of Reckoning
7. The Shadows Play
8. Darkness Prevail
9. Fear Subside
10. Dream of Memories
11. The World Is Growing Old
12. Your Own Demise

The album can be pre-ordered through the webshop of Depotz Records in two configurations, one of them is a bundle of the Digipack CD with a poster handsigned by the band along with a proper band T-Shirt with the new album cover on it.

And how is the record going to sound like? Well this question can easily be answered with the brand new video the band has released for the song "Forlorn".

If you want to see the band live you may be happy enough to see them on a European tour that has been announced for September 2015 on Facebook. Check back for the exact dates on that page or keep an eye on this article.

Senate of Prevail show off different side of the band sound

In the past months I've often written here about the progress the recordings for the new Senate of Prevail album. The guys are still busy with doing the finishing touches to that album but happily kept up the fine tradition of giving some insight into the recording process as well as into the songs itself.

So to make things short there's a new preview online since some time. This one has surprised me at many points. It doesn't sound so much like the previews we had before, so it seems like this one shows a different side of the band's sound. What do you think about this snippet?

To me this keeps me more than ever having a close eye on what's going on in the Senate of Prevail camp. Sounds to me as if a very heavy but also very diverse album with a highly quality approach on songs as well as on the technical side is coming our way. Just think of the traditionell Bollnäs metal sound combined with modern elements. To hear two full songs of the upcoming longplayer head over to my post about the freely downloadable "Abandon all hope" single.

If you want to stay up to date about the band don't forget to like them on Facebook. The instagram page also offers some fine insights into the time the band spends in the studio as well as on the concerts they plays from time to time.

Decide which newcomer band should play at Sweden Rock Festival 2015

Bollnäs Metal rules! This is the perfect follow up to the last article. Happily besides the older bands from this legendary town in Sweden like Tad Morose and Morgana Lefay there are still some younger bands around to carry on the torch of metal.

One of them is Senate of Prevail, a band I've often talked about here in the last months.
Now I would like to ask you for a little favor:

Please help Senate Of Prevail to get the chance to play at the Sweden Rock Festival. They need your votes to get a chance to play at this well-known festival. It would be their big chance to present their music to a huge crowd.

Follow this link, mark Senate of Prevail, enter the captcha code and hit the button at the bottom of the page! Please vote as much as you can, show it to your friends and help them go further in the competition! Thank you very much for your help!

f you're new to the band just try out their excellent song "Illusion" from the current single "Abandon all hope". This song totally got me into their music, so it's hard for me to stop my enthusiasm for their sound. The riffing is just perfect for my taste.
If you like the track don't hesitate to head over to Soundcloud. You can download it for free(!) from the band's Soundcloud account along with title-track of the single.

Also don't miss out the further band activities on Facebook since the band is working on their brand-new full length album these days.

Senate of Prevail showing Mosh Fest live footage and song playthrough

For years I've struggled to find a way to tell people why I'm so obsessed with gigs of small metal bands. This video that Senate of Prevail just released on Facebook gives some very good insight how it's like to be at a Heavy Metal Underground show.

I like that heavyness, it comes directly from the heart. No overdubs, no big intros but instead it just kicks ass directly from the very first moment up to the very last seconds but without missing out that feeling for vibes and melodies. Few people only know how much these people give to bring you such a fine music. Enjoy!

Update 2014/11/13: The band has announced the next show the band is going to play:

November 26th 2014
Stockholm
Pub Anchor, Sveavägen 90.

For all of you guitar players out there I've got a little extra: if you'd like to know how to play the rhythm guitars in "Abandon all hope" don't worry any longer. Here's a video that shows how to play that song.

Could watch for hours, always fascinates me to see guitar players in Heavy Metal bands. Plus I love to listen to the different sound these playthroughs provide and also some improvisations in this one.

Senate of Prevail share a new snippet from the coming album

A very cool new teaser from the upcoming Senate of Prevail album has been put out by the band. I like the mix of the various footage that is used in this one. It fits very good to the music and adds some personality so the members of the band are (hopefully) introduced a bit closer to the fans.

Want to hear more and even download new songs from the band? Check out my article about the release of the single "Abandon all hope" the band has set up for FREE download on soundcloud.

Senate of Prevail offer brandnew single for free download

You guys surely remember that I've talked about the two Senate of Prevail videos the band shot for the tracks "Abandon All Hope" and "Illusion" in my previous posts. Just click on the track name to jump to the article and to see the videos.

Today the band has set up both tracks on Soundcloud for free download! This is something that makes my weekend one to be remembered. Both tracks totally rule, so please give them a try.

Musically the band goes a fresh way with combining new song structures and sounds that are often present in today's generation of Metal bands along with traditionell ways of songwriting by using powerfull riffs and blasting drums. Besides that the vocals of Erik Lund Jonsson put a significant mark on all of the tracks. They're set on a high note but never miss a powerfull note and leave a lot of lasting impression on the listener. If you want to get a visual impression of the band make sure to check out the bands video for "Illusion".

The band is currently working on a new full length album. You can follow the recording process on Instagram or give the band a like on Facebook to stay up to date on activities like live shows or videos from some of their past performances.

Senate of Prevail releases video for the versatile track "Illusion"

A while ago Senate Of Prevail released a music video for the song "Abandon all hope", a fully story driven movie without showing much of the band themselves. The video was captured in the good old VHS style which added to the atmosphere in my eyes.

In the meantime the band continued his path and did a liveshow at the past weekend as the support of Trail of Murder at a local event in Bollnäs called "Rockaway 2014".
They also used the time on that very same weekend to film a new video for the track "Illusion", this time focussing more on the band's performance.

Some hours ago the result was posted by the band on Facebook. The band did work again together with Johan Bodell and it turns out that he is very modern in filming but happily doesn't forget to keep close to the song and catches up a lot of the emotions of the band while playing the track.

For me this made this tuesday a very special day to be remembered. This track is absolute amazing and outstanding! Love the riffing plus the melodies and most of all the changes and diversity of this one. The details are outworked very fine and if you listen to it several times you will still find new details.
The ending is something very special, like it if a song leaves with some soft notes and some thoughts behind...

Make sure not to miss out on the further activities of the band and follow them on Facebook or check them out on Instagram.

Senate Of Prevail presents video for the brand-new song Abandon all hope

The brandnew video from Senate Of Prevail is finally here! As I told in a previous post the band currently is recording their second studio album. In support to the upcoming record the band shared a video to the brand-new track "Abandon all hope". It was recorded using the good-old VHS equipment.

For me it's a great song and video! This track breathes a lot of atmosphere and a style of it's very own. It's hard and riffing but at the same time also catchy, melodic and won't leave your ears for quite some time. The VHS style perfectly fits to the story of the video. It's a fine mixture between today's cutting techniques and the old characteristic of a VHS production. I think many of you out there who ever did a video with that stuff will walk a bit down memory lane with this one and maybe see that it even fit's properly for today's needs.

To stay in touch with the band make sure to hit the like button on the band's Facebook page or head over to Instagram and follow the making of the new album there. The Soundcloud page of the band is also worth a look and moreover listen. ;-) If you carefully look around on all of the mentioned sites you'll find some very cool and nice stuff.

The line-up of the band:

Erik Lund Jonsson - Vocals
Peter Jonsson - Guitar
Anton Forsman - Guitar
Thomas Perrsson - Bass
Pecka Wexell - Drums
