Music can set emotions free. They come out for me the most and in it's purest form when a band plays a acoustic track. I don't know why but it's always a deeply moving moment for me. I can't say anything just sit there feeling touched so deep inside.
This moment came along as I recently sat at my laptop and watched a live recording of Blacktop Mojo's acoustic performance for the song "Underneath". Enjoy every second of this fragile and breathtaking performance.
Besides the fine music the lyrics hold a important piece of advice for living life. Nathan Gillis, Drummer of the band explains what the band want's to express with this track.
"I've seen firsthand how bitterness and anger can destroy a person from the inside out. This song is about that, but also saying "I understand what happened, and I'm sorry you went through the painful things that brought you to this point" Keep your heart free , forgive people even if they don't deserve it."

Abraham Sarache looks at relationsships in a sophisticated way
Sometimes real special stuff arrives to my inbox. This particular one is one of these things that picked my attention. I think it's a good thing to have a look on other music than the one you use to listen to or stuff that falls in between the so often mentioned genre borders.
This track of multi-instrumentalist Abraham Sarache mixes up a lot of acoustic guitars along with hard hitting drumming plus deeply emotional vocals all over it. The pretty amazing thing is that besides the heavyness that comes from the pushing and hard hitting drums there's enough space in the sound for the feelings and that the guitars gladly never get lost so there's always a melody going through the whole track.
Check it out for yourselves and mark your Facebook calenders since Abraham Sarache will play a special release show in support of the album "The Gardener" (from which this track has been taken) at Volta in Amsterdam on June 24th. The show will be recorded for a future live release.

"The Gardener" is an alt/progressive rock concept album with the inclusion of folk instruments like ukulele and Venezuelan cuatro. To express the feelings involved, different kinds of voice registers are provided: from a soft, melodious or whispered voice to raspy voice. Various pads and synthesizers are used to give depth and warmth to the songs where an acoustic guitar with a low tuning predominates. A multicultural composition on the instrumental level and a progressive rhythmic base create an exquisite atmosphere of imbalance and peculiarity.
The philosophy behind the album is based on the fact that in any interpersonal relationship, whether it is a friendship or a romantic connection, there is a duality between the one that participates in an active way (The Gardener) and the one that does it in a passive way (The Flower).
“All of us at some point of our lives have a role of a gardener and in other moments we are flowers,” Sarache commented.
“We can all identify ourselves as the Gardener when we talk about a person we were looking after because we liked him or her, we wanted to know more about this person or we just wanted to spend more time with them, no matter what. We simply did everything possible to make things work.
“On the other hand, we have been also in situations when someone was interested in us in a special way, but the feeling was not mutual. We still wanted to maintain a relationship because we liked other aspects of that person's character. To this behavior I refer to as the Flower,” he continues.
“The Crush: Eyes of Fire” which opens The Gardener was awarded as the Best Alternative Rock Song by The Akademia Music Awards in May 2015. Sarache released a video single for the song, and he commented: “This is a very special video for me. My first video as a solo artist showing parts of my everyday in Madrid and Margarita Island where concept album The Gardener was conceived and recorded.”

Live-Review: A Place To Fall / FiftyFour Planets / Acoustic Steel - Lingen 19.9.2015
So this past weekend hopefully will stay some time in my mind. It was time for the local town party. The whole city of Lingen is changed into a big open air location at the end of each summer offering a wide variation of music to check out for free for everybody.
As part of this event you can find one place that offers a special section that keeps it mostly a bit heavier for the younger people of the city. It's called "Rock am Pferdemarkt" and it had a good line-up this 2015 edition offering three of my favorite local bands on Saturday. A note: there were more bands playing but I will ignore those here since they don't fit to the musical style of my blog so I will stick to the heavy bands of the line-up
First out were "A Place To Fall" which offer a mixture of Hardcore / Heavy Metal along with a fine mixture of melodic riffs and melodies. I arrived early to the show so I was able to see the band doing the soundcheck. The band was going to lay it down heavy that was made for sure. They had brought along a good package of speakers so they were really playing loud. Plus they had prepared the stage with some whistle blowers which they used every here and there at the show. Finally the band took the stage and got into the set very well. Most of all vocalist Sebastian Molleker gave a good signature of his abilities. It payed off that he doesn't had to play the bass guitar anymore and could concentrate of the vocals. On one song he screamed the parts as if he was collecting them up from deep inside and was letting off some real pressure. That was towards the end of the set and I feel that he was getting better with every minute that allowed him to get out of himself a bit more.
Malte Hornung, the lead guitarist showed some cool riffs and it was a good mixture of heavyness with fine melodies put inside that made me curious on the upcoming release that the band is currently working on. Make sure to check out the track below so you won't miss out them. If the band had been given a stage time in the later evening time I'm sure the band would have had the chance to gather a lot of new fans. At this time it was too early for most of the people to show up. Keep in mind that the show already started at 18:50 h so I thing you can imagine it. I for one was very happy that I didn't missed them out. I would have really regret if I had chosen to stay at home.
Afterwards it was time for the change over which turned out pretty short. The crew and bands really kept things short and quick but nevertheless made sure the sound was kept in good quality. Next to go were "FiftyFour Planets". Having seen them twice before I was curious what the band was going to do with the big stage since they previous shows were at a small live club here in Lingen called "Alter Schlachthof". The band used the place really well, most of all the Synthesizer Christoph jusmped around a lot as he seems to enjoy a lot. :-) The band has a own idea of sound mixing up classic Punk Rock elements with Synthesizer sounds and a good potion of Hardcore heavy elements. So on some parts they really keep it straight forward to the direct classic punk attitude just to go over without further ado to the hardcore parts that make a pushing, raw sound while the synths give some fine melodies to your ears you won't forget so fast anymore.
It's these versatile mix of sounds that keeps in your ears and makes the music thrilling and you can never know what's comes next. The drum patterns are sometimes kept unusual giving it a even more own character. You should definitely check out their noise in the tube player below. The only thing I still cannot feel fine with is the reaction of the audience. Why not give some applause to the band, why not show some enthusiasm? The band really layed it down heavy so there was absolutely no reason to hang around calmly and not giving the slightest form of reward to the band. The vocalist was right as he counted the applauding people and pointed at them (I was one of them :-) and thanked them for their reaction.
Last to go on my list were "Acoustic Steel". As their name already let's you guess they are drawn towards the heavier side of music but in a acoustic form. That said you may expect the usual tracks to be heard, mostly slow stuff and ballads. Sure the band has them in their set but most of all they also pick up tracks from the really heavy depths of metal like Slayers all-time classic "Seasons in the abyss" that you wouldn't even think of to be remade in a acoustic version. But this band manages to do so in a serious way, so all of the typical elements of the original tracks are kept intact, it's just that they rework them to fit to their attempt to the music. It's even cooler that the drummer uses Cajons and percussion to play his parts and that fit's also to the picture. Their set was filled with a lot of classics amongst them some Iron Maiden numbers like "Run to the hills" and "Fear of the dark" but they also weren't afraid to pick up Body Counts "Copkiller" for a acoustic version. The audience reacted quite well and showed some cool sing-along with dancing and giving a lot of applause to the band which was well deserved.
The peak of the show in my ears was their cover of AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" which I never had thought the people to go along so much on it. I guess the australian rocker may even have liked to see this performace for themselves. Anyway here I've got their current videoclip for you to check out. Besides going serious on the music the band also put's out some fun stuff making sure they never take things too serious so it's also good for having a smile on this very monday. The only thing I would wish for is the band to write own songs and play them. I love their covers but it would also be cool to see them performing their own numbers. But I've hope that this will happen since they aren't around for too long yet.
All in all it was a cool evening and I enjoyed every minute of it. Please keep the good work up all you people at the team of the "Rock am Pferdemarkt" as well as all of the bands showing up there. Hope to see you all around again!

Final Coil reveal new acoustic track
Sometimes there are videos out there that give you this feeling from the start that something special is hanging in the air. It's as if a certain feeling or moment has been captured within a melody or the full song. This track then stand's for something and more than anything that could ever be said with a million words it tells you a story that you can re-feel.
That's what happened to me when I first heard and saw the brand new Final Coil song for the track "Failed Lights". It's starting with this soft melody and starting to drift onwards from there before coming to a rougher climax towards the end that you nearly have the feeling as if you'd been on a journey to a place far away. The last soft notes give it something even more special when returning to the soft style of the beginning letting you alone with your thoughts. Just try this out for yourselves in the video below.
Keep a eye on the band's Facebook page so you won't miss out on the further activities of them. The band is also playing a one-off acoustic date at Duffy's Bar on Thurs 8th October. so you might be happy to catch them live.

Acoustic Steel releases video for their version of "The boys of summer"
Can you imagine yourselfs a band doing acoustic coverversions of Metal songs just like "Thunderstruck" (AC/DC) or even "Wasted Years" (Iron Maiden)? This band called "Acoustic Steel" has taken the mentioned songs and re-arranged them to fit with acoustic guitars and Cajons as drums. I've seen them several times live now and it has been some fantastic and impressive performances they provided towards the audience.
A while back the band released their very first EP on Rock Range Records. In the meantime the guys have filmed a first video for one of the songs from that EP called "The boys of summer". The original track was done by Don Henley and this is what Acoustic Steel made of that song:

3 Doors Down acoustic liveshow to be streamed online
Okay, 3 Doors Down are surely no underdogs but a big name in the world of Rock Music. Anyway, there songs have something in my eyes - a extra potion of feelings and a good combination of rhythm and melody. Plus I've got the feeling that the band has still something to say. Musically and also from the lyrics side that often have a deep message inside of them.
Tonight (10th September 2014) the bands acoustic set at Tabernacle, Atlanta, GA has been announced to be streamed online through the Yahoo Live service for free. Just jump over to the stream page to see it.
The official time has been set for 2:00 a.m. CT (I think this time-stamp goes for my American visitors) or 2:00 am CEST (this goes for my European visitors). If you have other informations on this please let me know. Enjoy and have a good time!

Review: Final Coil - Somnambulant

Short introduction
The band describes themselves as "(...) an alt-rock band with increasingly progressive overtones Final Coil are the link between the harmonies of Alice in Chains and the rhythmic pulse of Tool. (...)". This description fits in very well for the band. They are already around since 2008 and this year they've decided to give us a acoustic album entiled "Somnambulant". I've already posted about them here before so might want to check out my previous post containing info and music about their heavier output "Live with doubt" that's still up for free download (and maybe a little donation afterwards...).

The album is a very melancholic piece of music. It's very organic and you can hear very well through all the emotions that the musicians might have gone through in the last couple of months. The band writes on his Bandcamp page about this album that it "(...) is the result of too many nights without sleep, too many days spent dreamily walking towards an unknown future. (...)". This sentence brings the things up for thought for me. It has all there trademarks plus some Pink Floyd feeling every here and there. I suggest you listen first but be warned: once heard the tracks won't leave your ears so fast. ;)

Track by Track Review
This Love (Part One)
Perfect start into the album. It has this typical feel that I love so much about this band. The melancholic vocals fit so much into the melody. Later on some reverb and electric guitars add to the song and give it a bit chaotic feeling. The song closes the way it startsa bit more calmly. The last notes already point over to the following track.
Myopic
A fast start into the song. Same feelings in this track but much faster rhythm. Very catchy chorus along with a follow up melody that remaind for quiet a long time on my mind. Some final notes again lead over to track three.
Three
A fast beginning at the start. Very catchy again, but also this track goes by quickly. The end leaves you with some reverb back with the feeling that something quickly came, shaked you through and leaves you a bit asking what that was behind. Strange but cool feeling. :-)
This Love (Part Two)
We return to where part one left off. Like that vibe in there. After some mixed emotions a much harder electric guitar part is mixed in adding a slightly heavier feeling to the easy note. The track takes over to a very different direction. Exspect a bit of Pink Floyd feeling here. Hard to take but the end gives back some relaxed melody again.
Demons
Starts with electric guitar melody. Then goes over to a soft guitar play and very soft vocals. Maybe a bit of suffering feeling in here. Heavier guitars keep rushing in after some time, some nervous feeling and reverb to the end of it.
Feeble Minds (Quiet)
Beginning with vocals only. A bit of guitars and percussion join in followed up by some keyboards. Vocals are the center of this track, the other instruments fade away again just to return after a short while. Like the slowly moving atmosphere in this one. Keyboards add to the sound and it fades away with a little acoustic melody in the end.
Lullaby
A very colourfull beginning of the song. Rhythm adds to the track, giving it a bit punchy feeling. A soft melody in the first part of the song is replaced by a much heavier distortion packed part in the second half of the track. It gives it a bit of heavyness but the acoustic sides remain in there. Lullyby ends with quiet a climatic ending that bursts out all of the energy that has been builded up before. A very remarkable track.
Closed to the light
The album ends in the same mood as it began. Also the guitars on this one are a bit harder and straighter forward. A fast change between softer parts and the harder played acoustic guitar riffs. Some soft notes leave you a bit of dreaming behind. Let's hope for a continue sometime in the future...

Starts with electric guitar melody. Then goes over to a soft guitar play and very soft vocals. Maybe a bit of suffering feeling in here. Heavier guitars keep rushing in after some time, some nervous feeling and reverb to the end of it.
Feeble Minds (Quiet)
Beginning with vocals only. A bit of guitars and percussion join in followed up by some keyboards. Vocals are the center of this track, the other instruments fade away again just to return after a short while. Like the slowly moving atmosphere in this one. Keyboards add to the sound and it fades away with a little acoustic melody in the end.
Lullaby
A very colourfull beginning of the song. Rhythm adds to the track, giving it a bit punchy feeling. A soft melody in the first part of the song is replaced by a much heavier distortion packed part in the second half of the track. It gives it a bit of heavyness but the acoustic sides remain in there. Lullyby ends with quiet a climatic ending that bursts out all of the energy that has been builded up before. A very remarkable track.
Closed to the light
The album ends in the same mood as it began. Also the guitars on this one are a bit harder and straighter forward. A fast change between softer parts and the harder played acoustic guitar riffs. Some soft notes leave you a bit of dreaming behind. Let's hope for a continue sometime in the future...
